It all started in 2001 when it was launched as the ‘BMW Int. Biker Meeting’, but ever since 2007, the biggest biker party of the year has been known as BMW Motorrad Days. Planning has already started for next year’s annual celebration of the BMW lifestyle, which will take place from 3 to 5 July. Here’s how to get involved…The continuing success of the BMW Motorrad brand means that each year, many more new visitors arrive in the bustling town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the first weekend in July to witness around 40,000 friendly motorcyclists from every country imaginable besieging this well-to-do Alpine sports resort. Last year was the biggest and best yet, with a great mix of product highlights, tours, shows, exhibitors, fantastic food and drink, and a packed events, activities and party programme. The atmosphere has been described as ‘rocking’ but always friendly and relaxed. Some visitors have been known to travel from as far away as Australia or South America just to be there and share in the experience of being part of one of the most unique motorcycling parties on the planet. To the uninitiated, BMW Motorrad Days is a free festival, organised by BMW Motorrad, just as a way to say “thanks” for being part of the worldwide community that make the brand what it is. And from the town centre to the showground at the foot of the Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain) this motorcycling festival is celebrated – en masse – throughout weekend, with like-minded riders, pillions and enthusiasts from more countries than most of us would be able to name.In fact, where else on earth could you breakfast with Americans, enjoy lunch with Russians and share dinner with Japanese – before partying late into the night with a ‘united nations’ of riders, all brought together by their love of BMW bikes.Furthermore, it’s worth noting that BMW Motorrad Days is open to all and not just reserved exclusively for BMW owners. Every year we welcome many riders of other brands to come and take a look at what the BMW Motorrad community has to offer, because we believe that – sooner or later – many of them will ‘join the club’ and become BMW owners. Many of the familiar faces we see at BMW Motorrad Days return to visit year after year. When we ask them what makes the perfect BMW Motorrad Days weekend, they all say the same thing: you cannot do it all in one weekend because there is so much to do once you get here! Therefore, our advice is to start planning now, from what route you will take, to whom you will travel with, and where you will stay upon arrival. Many options are available, from organised group rides via dealers to club runs to individual tours – and be sure that your fellow BMW owners from other countries can advise on the best roads to take through their ‘back-yards’.As for accommodation, there is a massive choice available in the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and surrounding villages – but only if you book early enough. Every year it’s the same story: all the rooms get sold out and some visitors are left with long journeys to and from the event each day. So remember, it’s first come, first served so reserve your rooms early – or simply pack your camping gear and enjoy our great on-site facilities. As for what to do when you get there, well that’s another story, but rest assured you’ll be spoilt for choice because it’s entertainment all the way.For now, why not read some of the reviews from previous events at Motorrad Days and contact the friendly and helpful tourist accommodation service to reserve your rooms. Last year every hotel, guest house and campsite within a 50-kilometre radius of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was full. With visitors expected from all even more countries next year, early booking is advised so please send your requests to firstname.lastname@example.orgDon’t miss out on what will be the best biking party of the year.
