Four years ago the name of Bill Costello has become a "must" in the world of classic BMW Motorrad. He had in fact impeccably restored a beautiful BMW R50, that had always belonged to his family, as a tribute to his father. The restoration has earned him the cover of three magazines and a meeting with the leaders of BMW Motorrad in Germany. (beautiful video - family album - of his BMW R50)Since then, people started to ask him what his next project was ... Bill and his passion did not waste any time and "they" created this beautiful Cafe Racer BMW R 100 RT."I wanted a classic custom bike that would fit my personality and that I could use every day. My 1958 R50 is too precious, at a affective level, for a daily use. It also has only 26 hp and I wanted something more powerful. So I found a 1981 70 hp BMW R 100 RT, a great starting point. "Bill put its R 100 RT “on diet”, to bring it to a perfect "urban bike style". He also has improved the performance of the engine, replaced the shocks, added custom spoked rims and tubeless Avon tires.Under the seat hump, there is a small lithium-ion battery, combined with an equally compact Acewell. Bill also mounts his iPhone 5 on the navigation bar, and if the worst should happen, he can always use the BMW toolkit tucked under the customized seat. Its maiden voyage was a 1,600 miles round trip from New York to North Carolina. To test reliability and stability, he brought this beautiful naked to the maximum speed of 115 mph (about 185Kh), without finding any problems. This is only Bill's number 2 and having seen the first two, we look forward to see the next one. Definitely a success !! After all, it's about family traditions.
