Even more new BMW Motorrad models unveiled at EICMAS 1000 XR and F 800 R on show in Italy.Just weeks after three world premieres were unveiled at the Intermot show in Cologne, BMW Motorrad took centre stage in Milan on 4 November, when the covers were taken off another two new models at the important EICMA international exhibition. The exciting four-cylinder S 1000 XR will take the brand into a new Adventure Sport segment, while an F 800 R model update looks set to continue the success story enjoyed by this dynamic sporty twin-cylinder roadster for several years already.Despite the early 9am press conference, a packed hall of journalists witnessed the two unveils, presided over by head of BMW Motorrad Stephan Schaller, who spoke about the new MAKE LIFE A RIDE brand message, record sales worldwide and continued new model introductions.First up was the F 800 R, a new incarnation of the bike originally made famous by multiple world champion stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer and enjoyed the world over by riders, from beginners to professionals. This latest version has its power output increased to 90 hp, enjoys quicker acceleration than its predecessor and features many other improvements, including new suspension components and upside-down front forks, lower seat, new 'bars and footrests, a newly-designed side fairing and wheels, an all-new headlight and a choice of four new colours. Expect the F 800 R to set a new benchmark in its roadster segment. The Main Event for many was the introduction of the S 1000 XR, heralding the arrival of an entirely new segment for the brand – that of Adventure Sport. Sharing its DNA with some of the most exciting models in the current BMW Motorrad line-up, the XR is a highly emotional, yet very functional motorcycle that uses the same four-cylinder engine found in the S 1000 R and delivers a powerful 160 hp. It has a dynamic, yet ergonomic design that will allow all kinds of riding, from sports to commuting and even touring. With elements from the DoubleR and GS families cleverly combined with sharp styling and fascinating technological features, the XR is an Adventure Sport motorcycle the like of which BMW Motorrad has never produced before. Offering riders a high dose of emotion and cutting-edge design, it will surely be one of the most sought-after models for 2015 when it arrives in BMW Motorrad dealers.Along with all the latest models, rider equipment and accessories, a special extra highlight at the EICMA was a display of four R nineT 'specials' that have recently been created by four leading Japanese custom builders. Each bike is derived from a series production nineT but has its own unmistakable identity, thanks to the ingenuity of each builder.
