The annual Spanish ‘BMW Motorrad Days’ event was another resounding success over the weekend of 12-14 September, with record attendance and a packed programme of activity under sunny Spanish skies. More than 5,600 BMW enthusiasts once again flocked to the northeastern Spanish ski resort of Formigal in the Aragon Pyrenees to celebrate EBMWR14 – the 12th edition of the BMWRIDERS meeting. The sun shone on the mountain resort, helping the participants enjoy the numerous activities arranged for motorcycle enthusiasts and their companions. As such, the product tests were a resounding success at this year's event. More than 2,000 test-rides were carried out on more than 90 motorcycles, including new-for-2014 models such as the R nine T, R 1200 GS Adventure, S 1000 R, R 1200 RT and the all-electric C Evolution e-scooter.This year, the ‘Classic Racer’ zone featured more than 300 square metres of space, filled with custom bikes and exhibitions by famous artists and even doubled as a live music venue, with bands to entertain the crowds. There was also a custom sprint area, where riders tested their acceleration skills and their machines against one another in front of appreciative spectators. It was one of the most visited areas this year, along with another of the new developments for 2014: the ‘Competition’ zone with riders and teams from the Spanish Superbike Championship (CEV), the S 1000 RR Easy Race Cup and Endurance series. But it wasn't all about product testing and bikes. Registered visitors enjoyed themselves thanks to the wide offer of outdoor leisure activities available for all ages. This year the ‘Refreshment’ zone included an authentic gastronomy fair, with more than 20 different stalls offering a great variety of cuisine and typical products from the Aramón Valley. The Social Marquee was the meeting point for a range of conferences and various presentations of books, trips and documentaries from motorcycle adventure travellers who have used their bikes to take them to some of the most remote places in the world. The list of speakers included Charly Sinewan, Gustavo Cuervo and Eduard Lopez. The Social Marquee was also the setting for the fashion shows where the latest range of BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment was presented in a tightly-choreographed and thrilling display of modern dance moves.Outside, visitors were able to see freestyle shows from two of the best stunt riders in the world – both of whom rely on BMW Motorrad power for their routines. Local rider Narcís Roca wowed the crowds on his F 800 R, while Irishman Mattie Griffin made his debut at this year’s event, and amazed everyone with his stunts and tricks on the BMW 800cc parallel twin also favoured by Chris Pfeiffer. With organised tours of the picturesque region, prize draws, clubs, communities and much more on offer to visitors, the 2014 Spanish BMW Motorrad Days was a fantastic success and something to continue to build on in the future. More surprises are planned for the 2015 edition, so all the details will be made available on www.bmwriders.es and on BMW Motorrad Spain’s national Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you at BMW Motorrad Days in Formigal in 2015.
