On 28 and 29 August, the Pure&Crafted festival will open its gates for the first time in Ferropolis, Germany, to bring together what belongs together: the custom bike scene’s boundless sense of freedom and lifeblood, its love for handcrafted products and unbridled enthusiasm for great music. A motorcycle tour there is planned, leaving from the UK and picking up Belgian, Dutch and French riders along the way. If you live in northern Europe, then why not join them for the ride…This new festival supported by BMW Motorrad and celebrating the custom scene promises to be a great event. Set in the unique surroundings of Ferropolis, a massive retired open cast mine where the futuristic yet ancient machines still dominate the skyline, the event will bring together bikes, music and people in a fun way. With talented live bands like the Hives and Swedish Punk legends Refused playing it will undoubtedly be a perfect weekend for festival lovers. For riders based in the UK, Belgium, The Netherlands and northern France there is an unmissable chance to join a unique tour to the festivalOfficial BMW Travel Partner, Motorrad Tours are running a nine-day tour staying in three- and four-star hotels throughout, culminating in a night in a castle in the heart of the Ardennes for a farewell dinner. Over three days the outbound route takes you on a leisurely ride through the Ardennes and then winds around the reservoirs of the Ruhr valley before arriving at Ferropolis for the next three nights. The festival runs throughout Friday and Saturday and you will be there to experience the whole thing. As the location is not far from Berlin, a BMW Motorrad factory visit has also been specially arranged for enthusiasts to experience true creation at work and see at first hand exactly where their bikes are built. The festival weekend will be a blur of bikes and bands, and a memorable way to round off the month of August. For the return leg from Ferropolis, the tour will head through the German countryside to the walled medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Staying inside the walls of the amazingly well-preserved town it will feel like you have travelled back in time. For those with a long-held dream to ride the Black Forest High Road, the next day is for you as participants will enjoy the famous winding B500 (the Schwarzwaldstrasse) through the forest to Baden Baden. This will be followed by another great ride through the Ardennes to your final night’s accommodation – in a castle! The evening will include a farewell dinner and the obligatory pictures of the bikes lined up outside the castle walls, before heading off the next day in the direction of the Eurotunnel, or whichever country you call home.Designed to appeal to retro, custom and classic bike enthusiasts, the tour will be supported with a luggage truck that will carry one bag per person. There is the option to camp at Ferropolis, so those deciding to sleep under canvas can bring a further camping bag and tent in the truck. Those choosing to stay in the traditional German family-run hotel close to Ferropolis will be able to take advantage of the dedicated daily transport that has been arranged to and from the site. For riders already based on the continent there is an option to join the tour on the first night and then leave after the farewell dinner to head back to their own homes. It promises to be an action-packed, fun-filled tour, riding some of the best roads in northern Europe, staying in fantastic locations and then experiencing great bands and music at the festival, with a factory trip thrown in for good measure. You don’t have to have a retro BMW or R nineT to join but the organisers will be delighted if you do, because they are hoping to create a big 9T rideaway to Ferropolis.
